It all began...

Chipper was born January, 10, 2010. He was considered the “runt” of the litter, and we couldn’t be happier that he became ours. Chipper was a curious puppy and he grew into a leader as an adult. Chipper had several doggie friends that he loved to go hiking with and loved to play with. As a young pup, Chipper loved to run alongside the car down the dirt road across farmland, and he loved to run alongside his dad on a bicycle. Chipper had a peculiar love for rides, runs, and the homemade lure course. When he knew he’d be going on a ride, for a run, or chasing the lure he got very excited and had the highest pitched bark. Chipper was happiest when he was active in one of his favorite hobbies. When Chipper was about 1-2 years old, we found out that he had developed early on-set of Hip Dysplasia and Arthritis. Although Chipper, had these setbacks he still loved to run, play, hike, and chase.
However, the diagnoses of Hip Dysplasia and Arthritis inspired his mom and owner of Chippers, Barbara Aubrey, to journey down a different path of nutrition for Chipper. She wanted to make his life the best it could be despite his medical issues. So, she began to research and discover foods that were and were not too good for a dog with arthritis to consume. Chipper used to indulge in dog treat biscuits, but after his diagnosis he couldn’t have the ingredients that were in the biscuits. Therefore, Barbara searched for quality dog food and dog treats that allowed Chipper to continue to enjoy all the things he loved. Chipper had been on a natural kibble diet but was switched to cooked homemade food, and then the last few years of his life he was placed on a raw diet. Changing the food and treats that Chipper ate did improve his health. We saw a significant difference and since Chipper was still able to enjoy his hobbies, we were happy and continued to feed him healthy food and treats.
Chipper’s condition inspired Barbara to become educated in dog nutrition. What started as a personal spark of discovery to help Chipper live a quality life became a burning desire to share the importance of healthy dog nutrition with others. She talked with family and friends who had questions and were surprised at the difference in their dogs’ health when they implemented certain changes. On December 24, 2018 Chipper passed away at the age of 8 due to cancer. After his death, the idea to begin making, selling, and promoting healthy dog treats was the motivation to start Chippers. In memory of our beloved canine, Chippers was born. The orchestration of our new venture could not be better, and we are grateful for the opportunity to share our love of dogs and the importance of healthy dog nutrition with you and your beloved canine.
